China-based WeRide has partnered with Grab Holdings Limited to deploy autonomous shuttles under the brand Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) in Singapore. The service has been selected by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to operate two designated routes in the Punggol residential district, starting with a fleet of 11 vehicles including the five-seat WeRide GXR and eight-seat Robobus.
Both models have passed Singapore’s Milestone 1 safety assessment, certifying them for autonomous operation on public roads with trained safety operators initially on board. Ai.R will undergo a route familiarisation phase before carrying passengers, expected as early as 2026, to improve connections to transport hubs, supermarkets, and business parks.
