State-owned EVN plans to connect Phu Quoc Island to the Vietnamese national grid by July 2014. For this endeavour, EVN’s wholly owned subsidiary, Southern Power Company (SPC), plans to commission the 110 kV Ha Tien–Phu Quoc submarine power cable. The 55.8 km interconnection project is being implemented as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by Italy’s Prysmian PowerLink SRL. The project, worth 2.47 trillion dong, is mostly funded by the World Bank. Meanwhile, EVN has decided to invest roughly 15.7 trillion dong into the upgrading of the power transmission network this year. This figure is about 27 per cent and 86.5 per cent higher than the 2012 and 2008 investment figures, respectively.
