The Government of Vietnam has announced plans to begin construction on nine railway lines before 2030, including the USD67.34 billion North-South high-speed railway, the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Haiphong line, and the HCMC–Can Tho railway. The total investment across all projects is estimated at USD100 billion.
The 1,541-km North-South high-speed railway will link Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi to Thu Thiem Station in HCMC, with substantial completion targeted by 2035. Other key projects include the 388.1-km Lao Cai–Hanoi–Haiphong railway and the 175.2-km HCMC–Can Tho railway, both expected to begin construction by 2027.
Additional lines, including the Hanoi Eastern Ring Railway, Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway, and Yen Vien–Pha Lai–Halong–Cai Lan railway, are in the feasibility study phase. Three more projects—Bien Hoa–Vung Tau, Vung Ang–Mu Gia, and Thap Cham–Dalat railways—are also slated to begin before 2030.
