PetroVietnam Power is preparing to commence operations at its Nhon Trach 3 liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled power plant in the third quarter of 2025. The project marks Vietnam’s first LNG-powered electricity generation facility. A second unit, Nhon Trach 4, is also expected to begin commercial operations by the end of this year.
Together, the two projects represent a combined investment of approximately USD1.4 billion. These developments are part of Vietnam’s broader effort to diversify its power mix and reduce dependence on coal, while integrating cleaner-burning fuels like LNG to ensure energy security and meet rising electricity demand.
