The Government of Singapore has officially commenced construction of Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL), a 15 km extension comprising six underground stations: Clementi (EWL interchange), King Albert Park (DTL interchange), Turf City, Maju, West Coast, and Jurong Lake District.
Launched on July 7, 2025, the second phase aims to enhance cross-island connectivity and reduce east-west travel times, particularly for western Singapore residents. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) targets completion by 2032.
Key features of CRL2 will include two new interchange stations at Clementi (with East-West Line) and King Albert Park (with Downtown Line), which will become Singapore’s deepest MRT station at 50 meters below ground. Four additional stations at Turf City, Maju, West Coast, and Jurong Lake District (working names). Also, travel time between the West Coast and Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park will be reduced by up to 40 minutes.
Phase 1 of the project will have 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, under construction since January 2023, and expected to open in 2030. Then, the Punggol Extension will span 7.3 km with 4 stations (Punggol to Pasir Ris), began construction in October 2023, and is targeted for 2032. Lastly, the Phase 3 will serve the Jurong Industrial Estate is currently under engineering study. When completed, the fully underground CRL will stretch over 50 km, making it Singapore’s longest underground MRT line, connecting the east, west, and northeast regions of the island.
