VINSPEED High-Speed Rail Investment and Development and Siemens Mobility have secured a turnkey contract worth around USD1.17 billion to develop and equip the 121-km Hanoi–Quang Ninh and 54-km Ben Thanh–Can Gio high-speed rail lines in Vietnam. VINSPEED will undertake project development, civil engineering and track construction, while Siemens will supply 10 Velaro Novo trains, signalling and communications systems, and electrification.
The projects will be implemented in phases, with the Hanoi–Halong line planned with four stations. The trains will use Automatic Train Operation (ATO) integrated with ETCS Level 2, which Siemens identifies as the first deployment of ATO over ETCS on a national high-speed rail network. The Velaro Novo trains will be designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, with each 200-metre-long, seven-car train accommodating 760 passengers.
