Tokyo Metro has announced it will begin providing Operation and Maintenance (O&M) advisory services for Ho Chi Minh City’s (HCMC) Urban Railway Line 1 from May 23, 2025. This move follows the upcoming opening of the 19.7 km metro line, which is expected to launch in December 2024 with funding support from JICA.
Tokyo Metro, leveraging over a century of urban railway experience, will assist HURC1 — the Vietnam-based operator of the line — to ensure stable and efficient post-launch operations. The initiative is part of a broader advisory consortium led by Nippon Koei Company Limited, commissioned by Ho Chi Minh City’s Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR).
Tokyo Metro has been involved in capacity-building efforts in Vietnam since 2017, including helping HURC1 with safety certifications and internal regulation development. This project underscores Japan’s continued support in enhancing Vietnam’s urban transport infrastructure.
