The Government of Vietnam has aimed to achieve net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2050, requiring a substantial investment of USD90.88 billion over the next 25 years to build a network of charging stations for green transport. The three scenarios are proposed for emission reductions, with investment needs ranging from USD31.76 billion to USD90.88 billion, depending on the extent of policy support and international collaboration.

The study’s Scenario 1 projects continued reliance on conventional fuels, leading to a rise in greenhouse gas emissions (GHE). Scenario 2 envisions a gradual transition to electric and green energy vehicles, while Scenario 3 aims for a comprehensive shift to net-zero emissions, supported by global partnerships and funding.

The EV-to-charging-station ratio in Vietnam is currently 9.44:1, close to the International Energy Agency’s recommendation of 10:1. The country is projected to need over 1.5 million public charging stations by 2050 to support its green transport goals.
