The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Thailand has announced that the first phase of the Thailand-China high-speed railway (HSR), connecting Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima, will be completed by 2028.

As of September 2024, 35 per cent of the project is finished. The second phase, extending to Nong Khai, is expected to commence in 2025. The Governments of China and Thailand are also planning to develop a railway bridge over the Mekong River and a 200-km-long double-track rail in Laos to improve connectivity between the two countries’ rail systems.
