The Thailand government plans to merge TOT Public Company Limited and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited into a single entity – National Telecom (NT). NT is expected to commence operations by end 2019. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has sent a letter to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to clarify whether TOT and CAT Telecom can use their existing spectrums until 2025. A decision on the issue is expected to be taken by November 2019. The merger has been approved by the State Enterprise Policy Commission (Sepo) and is expected to boost business efficiency, reduce redundancy of operations and add value to the existing assets of TOT and CAT Telecom.
