Cambodia and Thailand have started construction work to redevelop the Khlong Leuk–Poi Pet railway bridge, which will connect the two countries. The new bridge will be developed on the foundation of the earlier one, located at the back of the Poi Pet Immigration Office in Banteay Meanchey province of Cambodia. The earlier structure has remained idle for the past four decades. The construction and maintenance is from Chachoengsao’s Klong Sib Kao station to the Klong Luek railway bridge in Aranyaprathet district. The 176 km route comprises 170 km of renovation work and 6 km of new construction work worth Baht 2.808 billion. The contract for construction has been awarded to the Italian-Thai Development Public Company. The project includes development of a 43 metre railway bridge over the Klong Luek canal, which is a natural border between Thailand and Cambodia, and is slated to be completed by February 19, 2016.
