Tenders to develop 26 solar power projects in Myanmar have been cancelled due to companies breaching tender regulations.
These tenders were initially launched in May 2020, under which the National League for Democracy (NLD) government invited bids for the construction of 29 ground-mounted solar projects with combined capacity of 1GW. The solar projects were meant to be developed under a 20-year build, operate and own model.
In September 2020, the tenders were awarded to China-based companies and consortium to build 28 out of the 29 plants. However, the tenders have been cancelled as power purchase agreements (PPA) were not signed for 26 projects. Currently, works are being implemented on the remaining three solar facilities in Myanmar
