The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has launched an EUR86.41 million project to build electricity transmission lines and distribution networks in the Kampong Cham, Kratie and Koh Kong provinces in Cambodia.
The grid project was financed by grants of EUR70 million from the Government of France, EUR1 million from the European Union (EU) and EUR15.41 million funding from Electricite du Cambodge (EdC).
The substations and distribution networks are expected to increase the reach and distribution of electricity as well as expand access to hydropower plants in the western and southern regions of Cambodia.
The three provinces are home to a number of hydropower plants, including Tatai Hydropower and Russey Chrum Krom, with combined capacity of more than 700 MW. Multiple smaller hydropower projects are also currently being developed in the region as well.
