Netherlands-based Tembo E-LV BV (Tembo) has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Francisco Motor Corporation to electrify jeepneys across the Philippines. As per the agreement, Tembo will develop and supply electric utility vehicle (EUV) electrification kits for a new generation of electric jeepneys (e-jeeps).
The JV has already secured their first orders and has commenced work to deliver the new electric vehicles.
The move aligns with the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Public Utility Vehicle Modernisation Program (PUVMP). Under this, the agency will replace all jeepneys and other Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) over 15 years old with more energy-efficient and environment-friendly alternatives.
