The first hydrogen refuelling stations and hydrogen public buses and cars are expected to be operational in Peninsular Malaysia by 2024. The Government of Malaysia is prioritising the deployment of refuelling stations, after which hydrogen cars and hydrogen-powered public buses will also be rolled out.

Gentari has been tasked to develop the first hydrogen refuelling station for which around RM12 million has been allocated. Moreover, the government is also collaborating with public and private sectors to achieve the national target of establishing 10,000 electric and hydrogen-powered charging stations across the country by 2025.

This initiative aligns with the national hydrogen agenda which will be outlined in the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap 2022-2050 (HETR). The HETR and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) will be launched in October 2023.
