Five mobile operators, namely CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Power International have signed share subscription agreements to acquire a collective 70 per cent equity stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) in Malaysia. Each partner will acquire a stake of 14 per cent and will invest a total of RM233 million.

The subscriptions are expected to be completed between February and April 2024 after due diligence requirements are met. DNB will now seek to complete the implementation of the 5G network by achieving 80 per cent coverage in populated areas.

In May 2023, the government announced it will enable the deployment of a second 5G network in 2024. In November 2023, DNB launched the largest 5G experience centre in the country in partnership with Sweden-based Ericsson. The new 5G centre is located at the TRX Exchange 106 tower.
