The Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) plans to complete the bridge crossing for the Thailand-China high-speed rail (HSR) between Thailand and Laos by 2029. The bridge will be located parallel to the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge connecting Nong Khai province to Vientiane.

Neda will provide financial assistance to the Government of Laos; meanwhile, the Railway Department under the Transport Ministry will assist the Government of Thailand. The Thailand portion of the bridge will commence construction in 2024.

Phase I of the HSR project will span 250 km connecting Bangkok with Nakhon Ratchasima, covering six stations. The phase is expected to be completed by 2026. Phase II will connect Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai and is expected to be completed by 2029.
