Sun Group has started construction of the Phan Thiet Airport project, marking a key step in expanding aviation infrastructure in southern Vietnam.
The airport, located in Mui Ne, will cover nearly 75 hectares and is being developed to 4E standards, allowing it to handle wide-body aircraft. In its first phase, the facility is expected to serve around 2 million passengers annually, with construction scheduled to be completed within two years.
The project includes a passenger terminal of approximately 18,000 square metres, six aircraft parking positions, a 45-metre air traffic control tower, and supporting infrastructure such as navigation systems and internal transport networks. The design incorporates elements inspired by local Champa cultural heritage.
Initially, the airport will cater to domestic flights, with the capability to handle non-scheduled international services. It is expected to improve connectivity to major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, while supporting tourism growth in the Mui Ne–Phan Thiet region.
