The China Railway 16th Bureau Group has completed the pre-feasibility study of the 50 km long Phnom Penh southern railway line that will link the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port with Kandal and Kampong Speu provinces. The company estimated that the railway link would cost $250 million. More data and further research would be required to determine whether the project is financially and economically viable. The government has already received a $141 million grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to restore and improve the railway links from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and Poipet. In addition, the government has also allocated $17 million from its own budget to the Phnom Penh-Poipet line.
