SMRT Corporation is expanding its use of artificial intelligence through a new platform called Jarvis to enhance rail reliability, reduce delays, and optimise maintenance operations in Singapore.

Developed by SMRT’s technology arm Strides Technologies in collaboration with Oracle, the system uses data from across the rail network to predict equipment failures before they occur. Maintenance teams can access insights via a chatbot-style interface, enabling proactive interventions and reducing service disruptions.

The platform is currently being piloted with around 50 users and focuses on key assets such as point machines and platform screen doors. By analysing sensor and historical data, the system can detect early signs of wear and prioritise maintenance, shifting from traditional time-based schedules to condition-based maintenance.

The initiative aims to improve passenger experience by minimising disruptions while also helping manage operating costs through more efficient resource allocation. Broader deployment is expected over the next few years as the system is refined and integrated across the network.
