Hanoi has expanded its electric bus fleet with the addition of 53 new vehicles on routes 16, 24 and 29, bringing the total number of clean-energy buses to 699, including 560 electric buses and 139 CNG buses. These now account for 35.8 per cent of the city’s subsidised bus network, marking a significant step in its green transport transition.
The rollout forms part of broader initiatives linked to the sustainable urban transport programme supporting Metro Line 3, as well as the city’s long-term plan to develop an environmentally friendly public transport system. Authorities aim to improve service quality while reducing emissions, congestion, and pollution associated with rapid urbanisation.
Further expansion is planned, with 122 additional electric buses expected to be deployed across eight routes by April 30, 2026, increasing the total to 821 green-energy buses (42.1 per cent of the fleet). By the end of 2026, the fleet is projected to reach 851 vehicles, significantly exceeding the city’s original target of 20–23 per cent clean-energy adoption.
