The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a contract to a joint venture (JV) of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company (Singapore) and Obayashi Corporation to design and construct a station and tunnels for the Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2 project. Works under the SGD530 million contract are expected to commence in Q3 2024.

The construction works for this station are expected to be challenging due to the varying soil conditions in the area, especially the harder ground conditions of the Bukit Timah granite formation. This requires the use of specialized techniques to carry out excavation works safely.

Before commencing the excavation and construction of the station structure, earth retaining and stabilizing structures (ERSS) will be installed to ensure safety and ground stability. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the contractors will closely monitor the works and implement necessary mitigation measures to ensure safe construction with minimal impact on nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.

CRL is the eighth mass rapid transit (MRT) line in Singapore. It is being developed in three phases, which will collectively span over 44 km. Phase 2 will span 15 km and cover six stations (all underground). Phase 2 is expected to be operational by 2032.
