Royal Railway of Cambodia (RRC) has announced plans to modernise its operations by investing in advanced safety equipment. The RRC is working on launching new trains on the Phnom Penh–Poipet and Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville lines, using imported Kiha-183 DMU locomotives from Japan. The southern line will operate at 80 km/hr, meanwhile the northern line will operate between 30 and 50 km/hr.

This modernisation is aimed at improving the efficiency of the country’s transportation system to meet the growing demands of local passengers. This is expected to boost economic development by enhancing the transportation of goods and people across the country.
