PLDT and DITO Telecommunity have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share telecommunications infrastructure across the Philippines to expand nationwide network coverage more efficiently and at lower cost. Under the agreement, the two operators will grant each other reciprocal access to eligible tower sites without charging usage fees. The partnership also covers in-building solution (IBS) colocation and submarine cable capacity sharing through indefeasible right of use (IRU) arrangements.
The infrastructure-sharing agreement is expected to reduce network deployment costs, minimise duplication of telecommunications infrastructure and accelerate digital connectivity across the country. PLDT, through its mobile subsidiary Smart Communications, serves approximately 66 million mobile subscribers, while DITO Telecommunity has around 17 million subscribers. Both companies said the collaboration will improve network expansion while maintaining competition in the Philippine telecommunications market.
