The Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City People’s Committee plans to build the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, which will be the first green port in Vietnam. Plans for the project have been submitted to the government for approval. The 571-hectare-wide port will be built on Con Cho islet in Thanh An commune in HCMC. All the equipment on site will operate clean and sustainable fuel and energy while featuring smart technology to improve efficiency. Development will be divided into two phases, with works on the first phase expected to start before 2030. 

Interested investors are required to have a charter capital of at least USD376 million and have previous experience in investmenting in port projects of similar scale. 

Once operational, the green port will be able to accommodate container ships of up to 24,000 TEU, transshipment ships between 750 TEU and 5,200 TEU as well as cargo ships up to 8,000 tonnes.
