The Phuket Island light rail transit (LRT) project in Thailand has been delayed once again as the project plans need to be revised by a specialist.

The transit project was initially approved in 2016. The project was expected to cost around THB42 billion, with THB32 billion earmarked for phase one. Services under Phase 1 were scheduled to commence in 2024, however, design flaws have required the project plan to be reviewed. This has increased the project cost to THB55.8 billion.

No updates about the expected date of commencing construction has been provided yet.

The Phuket Island LRT project is a 58.6 km long urban transit system in the Phuket and Phang Nga provinces. The first phase will link Phuket International Airport to Chalong Intersection while the second phase will extend the line further to Chatchai Checkpoint.
