The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) is urging the government to extend the zero-tariff policy on imported electric vehicles (EVs) and parts until 2040 to support the continued growth of electrified mobility. The policy, which replaced import duties of up to 30%, is currently in effect until 2028. EVAP is targeting the deployment of at least 2.5 million EVs by 2040, while the Department of Energy aims for half of vehicles on Philippine roads to be electrified.
EVAP is also calling for faster electrification of government vehicle fleets and expansion of charging infrastructure. AC Mobility had deployed more than 500 public charging points across over 230 locations nationwide by July and is targeting more than 1,000 by year-end. However, varying local permitting requirements are delaying some charging station deployments, prompting efforts with the Department of Energy to streamline approvals.
