The Government of Kazakhstan has proposed that Kazakhstan and Laos conclude intergovernmental and interagency agreements on transport and logistics. The proposal followed talks with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith in Astana, with both sides seeking to expand trade and connectivity between Central Asia and Southeast Asia.

Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s role in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route connecting China and Europe and proposed using the country’s transport corridors to facilitate Lao exports to Central Asian and European markets. Kazakhstan also aims to expand exports to Southeast Asian markets via Laos, while the Laos-China railway was identified as strengthening Laos’ transit potential and its links with ASEAN, China and Europe.
