The Department of Energy (DOE) and the University of the Philippines Statistical Centre Research Foundation Incorporated (UPSCRFI) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to continue the Gas Policy Development Project’s phase 2 (GPDP 2). The GPDP 2 project will aid in the development of the Philippines’ natural gas market.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the UPSCRFI will provide the DOE with technical assistance and studies to assist the agency in formulating policies that will draw investment in the country’s natural gas sector. Previously, the DOE and UPSCRFI had collaborated on the GPDP’s phase 1, where UPSCRFI provided technical support to DOE to enforce the Philippine Downstream Natural Gas Regulation. Phase 1 was implemented from September 2018 to January 2020.
The United States Asia Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy (Asia EDGE) Initiative is also providing support for the project.
