Phase I of the Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) North-South Corridor has been opened for public operations. It spans a total of 16 km from Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle/Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta. While 10 km will be elevated, the remaining 6 km will be underground; the corridor will have 13 stations. It has been developed at an estimated cost of $1.1 billion and has been funded by the Indonesian government, the Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta provincial government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Initially, PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta will deploy a fleet of eight six-coach trains supplied by Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation and Nippon Sharyo. The services will be available between 5.30 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. By June 2019, a fleet of 14 six-coach trains will be deployed and services will be available between 5 a.m. and midnight.
The construction of Phase II of the North-South Corridor Phase II has commenced. It will span 7.8 km, which will be entirely underground and cover seven stations. Construction work on the phase is expected to be completed by 2024.
