The Government of Thailand Cabinet has announced plans to approve the second phase of the 20-baht flat fare policy, extending the affordable fare to the Blue, Yellow, Pink, and Green electric railway lines in Bangkok and nearby provinces.
This follows the successful pilot on the Red and Purple Lines since October 2024, which boosted ridership significantly. The Ministry of Transport is revising concession contracts to align with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) guidelines and implementing an integrated payment system through the government’s Thang Rath app, with commuter registration launching in August. Supporting legislation, including the Common Ticket Management Bill, the New Rail Transport Bill, and amendments to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority Act, are being prepared to secure financial compensation for operators and modernise rail governance under the flat fare scheme.
