Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to supply renewable energy (RE) solutions, energy efficiency products and services as the Malaysian city targets to achieve smart and sustainable city status by 2030. A supply agreement for renewable energy (SARE) has also been signed with GSPARX Sdn Bhd, TNB’s wholly owned subsidiary.
As a part of the MBI Strategic Planning Plan, Ipoh Low Carbon City and Walkable City by 2030, the partners will undertake the installation of photovoltaic solar systems, smart LED street lighting, energy performance and monitoring system, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and smart meters across Ipoh.
The project’s main objective is to reduce carbon emissions intensity across Malaysia and is in accordance with the government’s target to offset greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.
