The Government of Cambodia has announced plans to undertake an environmental impact study to assess the feasibility of constructing a 300 km undersea fibre optic cable system connecting Hong Kong to Preah Sihanouk province. The construction of the subsea cable system is expected to commence in the next few years and is expected to boost the quality of telecommunication services in the country.

The cables will have a total length of 323.5 kilometres, with a station being constructed in Bit Traing commune’s Koki village that will be operated by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

The construction company will also need to provide sufficient waste management plans according to technical standards.
