The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has released guidelines that prohibit the sale, purchase, importation, possession, or use of cellular mobile repeaters and portable cell sites operating in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz frequency bands. Its rationale is that such equipment affects the signals of major telecommunications providers in the country. NTC has stated that only duly licensed cellular mobile telephone system operators, the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council, along with government agencies performing functions vital to national security are allowed to use this equipment.
