The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has commenced a free trial of its new smart parking system in Bangkok. The trial started at the Orange Line’s Park’n’Ride unit on Ramkhamhaeng Road and a parking area at the MRTA station on Rama IX Road. Users can park without charge for up to 48 hours, but charges apply for longer durations.

The parking facilities can accommodate cars and motorcycles, with additional features such as washrooms, CCTV cameras, and security personnel. The smart parking system allows users to find parking spots and pay fees through the MRTA Parking mobile app.

Further, plans include deploying electric vehicle (EV) chargers, taxi parking slots, and vending machines at the stations. This initiative supports the Ministry of Transport’s campaign to reduce PM2.5 dust pollution by promoting the use of electric train services. Additionally, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) plans to replace its current fleet with 3,390 electric buses as part of its sustainability efforts.
