Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) will soon conduct technical studies for developing a third bridge linking Cebu and Mactan islands after the Cebu Provincial Board’s passage of a resolution authorising the government to sign an agreement with MPTC on this matter. The resolution states that all necessary pre-development, traffic, engineering, and other technical studies on the proposed bridge project will be undertaken within six months, at no cost to either the Cebu provincial government or the Cordova municipal government. The project will involve the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the main bridge structure, viaduct, causeway, and support arterial roads. The proposed bridge is likely to be built south of the existing Serging Osmena bridge; it is expected to alleviate traffic congestion between Cebu and Mactan.
