The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is undertaking the implementation of development projects (totalling PhP 70.5 million) at Southern Leyte’s Maasin airport. Based on the ongoing development of the projects, DOTC expects to launch commercial flight operations at the airport within the next three years. In January 2013, DOTC awarded the runway extension project (PhP 12.92 million) to the Monta’o Construction and Development Corporation. The same company had also bagged a PhP 57.58 million contract, involving the construction of a passenger terminal building and drainage system, and site development, three months ago. The apron and taxiway were completed in 2012.
