The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has withdrawn the PhP 100 million fund for a road widening and concreting project in Naga city. It would seem that this development is a result of massive opposition from various sectors of Naga city with regard to the cutting of 651 decades-old giant trees planted along both sides of the highway. Earlier, the department had stated that adding lanes on both sides of the national highway could not be done without cutting the trees. Further, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources had already given the permit to cut these trees in May 2013.
