The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation efforts. This partnership aims to align with the goals set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and international energy and climate targets.

Under the MoU, MPA and IEA will work together to promote the development and transition to zero and near-zero emission fuels and technologies in the maritime sector. Additionally, they will focus on digital technologies that support sustainability solutions. The collaboration will involve sharing practices across maritime and energy industries, facilitating capacity-building training programs, and contributing to relevant fuel-related projects and initiatives.

MPA’s expertise and networks will support IEA’s analysis of the global and regional development of hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives. In return, IEA will facilitate knowledge and experience sharing by accommodating staff on loan from MPA. Moreover, the MoU complements the establishment of the new IEA Regional Cooperation Centre in Singapore.
