The Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to enable fare payment through QR code-based tickets via the Beep application across its light rail transit (LRT) and metro rail transit (MRT) trains and buses in Manila, Philippines.
This new payment method, facilitated by AF Payments Incorporated (AFPI) and Multisys Technologies Corporation, is scheduled to be implemented before the end of 2024. It aligns with efforts to establish an automated fare collection system, enhancing commuter convenience and improving the overall rider experience on urban transit lines.
Previously, Maya, in collaboration with Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and AFPI, introduced QR code-based payments at all LRT-1 stations.
