Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications has awarded the country’s first trial licence for 5G mobile communication services to Viettel Telecom. As per industry sources, the test permit is valid for one year, until January 21, 2020, and allows Viettel to undertake technology trials in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Further, Viettel has been given the permission to test 5G at a maximum of 73 locations, but the operator cannot charge the users availing of the service. Along with the licence, Viettel has been granted access to spectrum in the 2575 MHz-2615 MHz, 3700 MHz-3800 MHz and 26.5 GHz-27.5 GHz frequency bands.
