The Mandaue City Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Futran Philippines Incorporated, to conduct a feasibility study on a podcard-based transport system in the Philippines. The personal rapid transit system will feature small low-capacity automated vehicles operating on a network of specially built guideways.
The podcar system will be able to transport up to 20 passengers using an on-demand service. As the system uses elevated tracks, it will not interfere with general traffic in the city. The track is modular, making assembly easy and cost-effective.
This type of transit system is already operational in other cities in Germany, Japan, and China and has proven to be a low-cost sustainable transport system. The move is expected to address the issue of traffic congestion and long travel hours using the traditional jeepneys in Mandaue.
