Keppel Energy has secured a conditional approval by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to import 1 GW of electricity from Cambodia to Singapore. The imported energy will include solar energy, hydropower and wind power and will be transmitted through a new 1,000 km subsea cable between the two countries.

To support its plans, Keppel has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Royal Group Power (RGP) for the supply of low-carbon energy, which is expected to commence after 2030.

This is the first approval granted by the EMA for a large-scale electricity import into Singapore. This is in line with the Government of Singapore’s plans to import up to 4GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035.
