The National Digital Network, also known as JENDELA, is on track to upgrade Malaysia’s broadband infrastructure by the end of 2025. Out of the 3,884 new telecom towers planned under JENDELA, 2,395 have already been constructed and activated. Additionally, 39,983 transmitter stations out of the planned 40,214 have been upgraded.

To further support infrastructure development, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and telecom companies have been allocated a government budget of RM206.98 million to activate 600 towers in Sarawak. Telcos are prepared to operate 297 of the remaining 431 towers, while 44 towers are currently under construction. Additionally, 59 towers are being relocated, and 31 are facing location-overlapping issues.

Launched in 2020 as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan, the RM21 billion JENDELA initiative aims to achieve 100 per cent broadband connectivity in populated areas by 2025 and expand the use of 5G technology.
