Singapore’s LTA has awarded a SGD 68 million contract to a consortium of Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) and Trapeze Switzerland GmbH (Trapeze) to supply, install, and commission a unified intelligent bus management system in Singapore by end-2015. The new system will provide a unified solution for operations control, fleet management, passenger information, and business management for the LTA and two other public transport operators – SBS Transit and SMRT. On-board computers and touch terminals will be installed on all buses to provide traffic information and route schedules. Meanwhile, the LTA has invited tenders to conduct an engineering feasibility study for the 315 km Kuala Lumpur–Singapore high speed rail (HSR) link. The study will evaluate possible route options and connectivity with three potential terminal station locations (Tuas West, Jurong East, and the city centre). The study is expected to be completed by 2015. The HSR link is targeted to start operations in 2020. In February 2013, the of Singapore and Malaysian governments agreed to build the link to reduce the rail journey time from six hours to around 90 minutes.
