The Light Rail Administrator Transit Authority (LRTA) is lacking sufficient funds to finance the construction of three passenger stations under the LRT Line 2 west extension project in the Philippines. The agency so far has only received PHP2 billion from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the project, however, LRTA expects the extension to cost around PHP9 billion.

Engineering plans and other preparations have been completed for the extension project. The LRTA is currently seeking additional funding from the Budget department. The agency is also looking to appoint a multi-year contracting authority by the end of 2022 so it can start the bidding for the project.

The west extension project seeks to extend the existing Manila LRT line 2 by 3.02 km to the west of the Recto Station. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
