The Thailand government is planning to expand the coverage of low-cost broadband services to 69,866 villages by end-2018. The bulk of the expansion process would occur in areas that are currently not considered commercially viable by private companies. Earlier, the government had set a target of providing internet services at a minimum speed of 30 Mbps to 24,700 villages by end-2017. In order to achieve this target, it has undertaken pilot projects in 99 villages spanning 13 provinces in the country.
