Indonesia-based Gojek, a ride-service start-up, has announced plans to transition every car and motorcycle in its fleet to an electric vehicle (EV) by 2030. The plan will be executed through collaborations with producers and favourable leasing agreements. Gojek is considering leasing arrangements to assist with the funding to support its plans that are expected to be conducted through its financial services arm.

Currently, the company is in discussions to help the Indonesia’s EV industry development, including construction of facilities like battery swap and charging stations. The Government of Indonesia is assisting Gojek in its negotiations with China-based Contemporary Amperex Technology, a battery manufacturer, to supply EV batteries. Gojek also has multiple EV pilot programmes across Indonesia, with state-owned energy companies Pertamina and Perusahaan Listrik Negara, as well as scooter manufacturers Viar, Gesits, automakers Toyota and Mitsubishi Motors, NIU Technologies and Honda Motor.

Gojek is supported by investors including Google and Tencent Holdings and has approximately two million drivers throughout Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.
