Indonesia has announced that it plans to improve its energy infrastructure to cease liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and fuel imports by 2030. The National Energy Council has been charged with the task of devising a strategy to allow for the eventual termination of LPG and fuel imports.
The plan includes the construction and improvement of current refineries, transforming refineries to biodiesel refineries, increasing domestic LPG output and constructing a gas pipeline with a target of 10 million gas connections. The government will promote the development of gas infrastructure for public transportation, including the optimisation of biofuel output and the promotion of electric vehicles (EV). Indonesia also intends to convert coal to dimethyl ether as an LPG alternative.
Indonesia aims to raise domestic production of crude oil to 1 million barrels per day by 2030. The plans to achieve this goal include building new oil fields, implementing enhanced oil recovery techniques in existing oil fields, and increasing output in marginal fields.
