HyperStrong has signed an agreement with ERS Energy and Gamuda to supply a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the MyBeST Pekan project in Pahang, Malaysia. The standalone facility will have a capacity of 100 MW/440 MWh and is among four projects selected through Malaysia’s first competitive energy storage procurement programme, the Malaysia Battery Energy Storage System (MyBeST) initiative.

The Pekan project was awarded under a tender conducted by Malaysia’s Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) as part of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETRA), which targets renewable energy accounting for 70% of the country’s installed generation capacity by 2050. The MyBeST programme sought a total of 400 MW/1,600 MWh of battery storage resources, with each selected project designed to deliver approximately 100 MW of output and 400 MWh of usable storage capacity. Commissioning of the projects is scheduled for 2027.

HyperStrong stated that the facility will provide grid services including peak shaving, frequency regulation and system balancing to enhance grid reliability and support renewable energy integration. The system is being designed to operate under Malaysia’s environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity and salinity levels. The project also marks a further step in HyperStrong’s international expansion strategy and growing presence in Southeast Asia’s energy storage market.
